Bethesda Working on Skyrim Lag
If you have Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on PS3, chances are you have played long enough to notice some lag problems. For some the game has been rendered unplayable. It seems there is a workaround for now, while you wait for Bethesda to release a patch. The trick is simply to quit the game. According to several sources, quitting to the XMB and restarting the game should solve the problem for another couple of hours.
Even though reports have been touting the PS3 version as the superior console version (because of better texture rendering), it seems you might be better off playing on the 360. That is if the PC is not an option for you of course.
Bethesda is aware of the bugs and lags in the game, and has been reassuring customers all week that fixes are being worked on for all platforms. Pete Hines, VP of Marketing had this to say on Twitter as early as Monday,
We are continuing to work on an update for all platforms to address any bugs and perf issues we can, patches/updates take a little time. We can’t turn it around quite that fast. It’s been three days. Calm down. We’re working on it.
and has continued as late as yesterday reassuring that a patch is in fact coming,
As soon as it’s done, tested, certed, and then we can release it.
and then later commented on the length of time it could take,
Until it’s fixed, done, and verified, there’s no answer. Fixes can break other things, you have to wait until it’s all done.
Despite trying to do as much quality control as possible, fans don’t seem to think Bethesda is doing enough. I for one feel like developers are taking the wrong approach to releases. I’m pretty sure that’s what quality testing is for before the game is released. Did they not have people testing each system for bugs and glitching? They should have a team playing the games as if they were at home playing marathon runs, and really playing like gamers would. Regardless of the testing they do, there is no reason a week one patch this severe should be acceptable. Patches in games have become the norm these days and it speaks volumes about what developers are allowed to get away with.
