Square Enix’s Shows Off Next-Gen Tech in Agni’s Philosophy
At E3 2012, Square-Enix gave us a sneak peek of what kind of visuals we may be getting in the next generation of games. In a short real-time tech demo, Agni’s Philosophy, Square-Enix’s new gameplay engine was revealed. Dubbed Luminous Studio, the demo showed off gorgeous visuals in a Final Fantasy-esque setting that makes me real excited for the next-gen.
The demo shows off beautiful magic summonings, ferocious beasts, and crazy costumes all created by this stunning new engine. Individual strands of hair could be picked out. Ruffles and little details of characters’ wardrobe fluttered and seemed to have their own life. The lighting and shading effects bring everything to a much more realistic feeling even within this fantasy world. Everything looks amazing and this is all supposed to be in real-time, meaning this is how games will look when you’re actually playing.
I’ve heard people claim that graphics can’t get better than some of games we have right now. Square-Enix has made it clear to me that there is definitely room for improvement, and I’m really excited to play a game that looks like Agni’s Philosophy.
Square-Enix has also revealed that Luminous Studio will be a versatile game engine. This means they are planning to create different versions of the engine to use it on different platforms including phones, PC, and current gen consoles. Obviously, the graphics won’t be the same but the engine should still look impressive compared to what’s already out there.
